Straw into Gold

This easy shawl was knitted with 4-109 yd balls of Crystal Palace 100% Iceland Wool, super bulky weight, "Straw into Gold" colorway on US size 19 circular needles. Fun. I used a basic shawl pattern (just cast on 5 stitches and increase 4 sts on the first and then every other row--increase on the second stitch, increase one on either side of the center stitch, and the next to last stitch) until the shawl is as big as you want, or you run out of yarn. Use whatever stitch pattern you like; for this shawl, I used mostly stockinette because the yarn created it's own pretty design. I added a few garter stitch rows near the end because stockinette curls :).

Winter Wonderland

Frost sparkles in the field on a cold morning in February.

This dove sat here in the sun for a long time.

I have a handicap I don't think anyone else has . . .

These are the shoes I wore to work today. They are not the same shoe, they are not the same color, and they are not even the same heel height--I kinda limped when I walked.

Did I notice this before I got to my office? No. I run around so preoccupied all the time, that I don't even notice something as obvious as this.

What made matters worse was that my friend Mary Ann--Mary Ann, the always stunningly and tastefully dressed--stopped in today. Mary Ann and I are a study in contrasts. Mary Ann and my staff think that it is charming that I am a character. I do not want to be a character--I want to look like Mary Ann. My mission is life, it seems, is to be comic relief.

Daughter, who had to bring me matching shoes or I would have had to buy a pair because I had to be two places today where it was advisable that one's shoes match, said, "Honestly, Mom, how do you make it through life?"

My husband advises that I keep a pair of shoes at the office because--you don't know how I hate to admit this--this is NOT the first time I have done this. (I once wore a navy blue shoe and a light putty-colored shoe to work. At least they were the same shoe, just different colors! I also wore pink fuzzy socks and blue slippers one board meeting day. Sigh.)

Anyone else have this condition?

Happy Valentine's Day!

My husband's name is Rich--how funny is this?
I can't wait until he sees it.

Have a wonderful Valentine's Day.

Birdie watching

My husband took this photo--the kitties spend all day on the windowsills watching birds.

I met a former Pittsburgh Steeler who knits!

My friends Mary Ellen, Nancy, and I went to the Pittsburgh Knit & Crochet Festival today.
So much yarn, so little time . . . .
The angora bunny was popular,
but angora yarn makes me sneeze.
Former Pittsburgh Steeler Randy Grossman's wife Barb is the festival organizer, and Randy has taught knitting classes at some previous events--how cool is that?  He was very gracious to pose for a photo, and
to also allow me to photograph his 3rd
Super Bowl ring (he has 4).
My afghan square knitted for the charity
I had such a good time.  Thank you Lord for friends and the ability to enjoy ourselves together.

Demi, the Queen Kitty

Pet Portraits

Grace & Boo on Sunday afternoon.

My sincere apologies for how boring my life has been lately; I can't imagine why anyone except my close friends and family even bother checking in. Knitting and cats--oh, my.  I'm almost a caricature, but I praise God for it!
For me, boring is good.  Thank you, Lord.

YMCA Dinner

Kathy and Cassie were so much fun at our table at the Armstrong County YMCA dinner.
The meal was amazing, and the dessert to die for . . .
I lost my silent auction bid on Merna's cooking (I could already taste the cinnamon rolls!), but I won 4 Pens tickets--yay!
And a good time was had by all.

All 3 Cats

Demi on the windowsill,
Cody on the table (gasp!),
and Boo on the chair.

Hand-Knitted Items 8, 9 & 10

All of these were knitted in Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride, the hat in worsted, and the mittens in bulky weight.

Two of the Pets

This is Gracie. She is beautiful,
but beauty is as beauty does, I say.

And this is Cody; he is the gentleman of the tribe.
