Riley Update

Riley has been to the vet, medicated for ear mites and a yeast infection, & had his first vaccinations.  No, he is not in the house (yet) . . . :)

Woo-Hoo!

Now I don't have to vote for McCain just because he's better than the other guy. I think his choice of Palin is genius--how about you?

Mmmmmmm

Peach cobbler from our own peaches.  Yum.
This is the BEST recipe--I got it from Country Living magazine years ago.

There are several opportunities for death

on the road to our house. This is one of the worst of the trees that lean out over the road.
Upon closer inspection, it is actually broken almost all the way through at the bottom.
A limb from a neighboring (and neighborly) tree is all that is holding it up.
This particular specimen is already dead . . .
Although these appear healthy, a good several-inch rainfall could loosen enough soil to topple them, don't you think?
These are by no means the only murderous trees--I noticed at least two more on my way to work today.
There is more than one way to die on our road. Burger and I were once almost toppled off the motorcycle by a kamakaze turkey. Burger and Morgan encourntered a large black bear a few weeks ago, and last year, Morgan had to inch past a cow "that was as big as my car!"

My favorite pic from the Clarks concert

Kittanning Riverfront Park and the Allegheny River sparkle as Arts on the Allegheny presents The Clarks last Saturday night.

The Clarks!

What a beautiful day for Arts on the Allegheny's 3rd concert of the 2008 season!
There were people in the amphitheater, on the sidewalk, on the street, on the river, in the park, and even on the roof!

Rising Regina was a great opener. Watch for their performance in local venues.

Thank you to our sponsors . . .

The Clarks was the headliner--a very popular Pittsburgh-based band with roots at IUP. All ages enjoyed the evening.

Many, many thanks to our sponsors and to all the volunteers! YOU made this great event happen. Stay tuned for a September performance by our own award-winning Kittanning Fireman's Band.

Old Fashioned County Fair

I guess the Dayton Fair is not technically a county fair (and no, I don't know what the distinction is--maybe one of my readers can enlighten us), but it is a wonderful family-oriented tradition. What fun to enjoy corny acts (with apologies to Buffo, the World's Strongest Clown), animals, and other rural activities.

Meet Riley

A black & white cat showed up three months ago (remember the cat in the tree with the green saucer eyes?)  After he hung around for awhile, I started to feed him--he was so skinny.  But we couldn't get close to him.  I've been moving his food closer and closer, and standing closer to him when he ate.  I moved the food up onto the deck a few days ago.  We talked (he's very vocal, just like Boo was when we got him.)  He let me pet him for the first time yesterday, and today Morgan got her chance.
Riley and Boo look so much alike, they must be related.
Here he's talking to me.
Burger still says that Riley is NOT coming into the house.     :)

Boo likes corn.

He LOVES it.
We have to shut him in another room while we eat.

Corn is bad for cats, so he only gets to clean off an already-eaten ear.
Poor kitty.

Rehoboth Farm crops!

Burger is so excited--we are actually getting some fruit this year!

We have a young orchard, and have had only a few peaches to date. This year, we have peaches, some pears, and apples.

And then we saw this. Ugh.

Kittanning High School Class of '73 Reunion

We had such a good time at our KHS Class of '73 Reunion. It is so much fun to touch base with old friends. We were blessed by the attendance of a few classmates who have never attended a reunion before-so where were the rest of you? I know there are many who live in the area and didn't attend. Why would you deny your classmates the joy of seeing you? If money is an issue, we have a pool of funds that some of us donated for just that purpose, and only one person (Dawn) needs to know. SO. We are planning a 55th birthday party in two years, and we are coming after you!

Thank you so much, committee members, for a great weekend.
