I knitted a sweater for my cat. She looks cute, and it was fun, and my friends got a kick out of it. (The cat, however, had to be bribed with chipped ham.) Then I read an article in knitsimple magazine.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation noted in a report examining high infant mortality rates in developing countries that 3 out of 4 newborn deaths can be avoided with simple, low-cost practices such as knit caps to keep babies warm. Babies are dying for lack of warm hats, and I knitted a sweater for my cat.
To make restitution, I am donating hand-knitted hats to Save the Children, which has an action kit that includes patterns. You can knit, crochet, write, or send money. Join me.

Mindy, no one would know this is your first blog...looks great! I will send the link to some friends of mine who knit and may indeed join you...
congratulations!
Paula
Now how did you get that sweater on your cat???? Our cat is king of the house and never would allow such an item. We do enjoy him, but as they say, cats have their own agenda. They are great stress relievers...nothing like petting your cat to calm your nerves.
Mindy, CUUUUTTEEE kitty sweater! Love the little girly ruffle on the bottom! I'd join you but I can't knit, I don't even own yarn! Oh it's pathetic I know! :)
You are too much! Love the blog.
