on the road to our house. This is one of the worst of the trees that lean out over the road.
Upon closer inspection, it is actually broken almost all the way through at the bottom.
A limb from a neighboring (and neighborly) tree is all that is holding it up.
This particular specimen is already dead . . .
Although these appear healthy, a good several-inch rainfall could loosen enough soil to topple them, don't you think?
These are by no means the only murderous trees--I noticed at least two more on my way to work today.

There is more than one way to die on our road. Burger and I were once almost toppled off the motorcycle by a kamakaze turkey. Burger and Morgan encourntered a large black bear a few weeks ago, and last year, Morgan had to inch past a cow "that was as big as my car!"
